Government Polytechnic Bikram Chowk Jammu in collaboration with Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) Jammu organised an Awareness programme and Debate Competition on the occasion of 30th National Road Safety Week on this year theme “Sadak Suraksha Jeewan Raksha”. The Chief guest of the function was Dr. Ravi Shankar Sharma (KAS), Director Technical Education, J&K, while Guest of Honour was Sh. Deep Raj Kanathia (KAS) Regional Transport Officer Jammu, Sh. Joginder Singh, SSP Traffic, Jammu City, Er Arun Bangotra, Principal Govt. Polytechnic Jammu and Sh. Jugal Kishore, ARTO Jammu. The function started with lightening of ceremonial Lamp.

While speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ravi Shankar Sharma (KAS), Director Technical Education, J&K briefed the budding engineers about their responsibility as Indian citizen towards road safety and their strict adherence to the rules and regulations. Er. Arun Bangotra, Principal Government Polytechnic Bikram Chowk Jammu in his welcome advised the students to strictly follow the traffic rules and drive two-wheelers with crash Halmets as Life is precious and should not be risked at any cost. Sh. Deep Raj Kanathia (KAS) Regional Transport Officer Jammu threw light on importance of Safety Rules needed to be followed while drive on the road and advised the gathering to avoid rash-driving, over speeding and avoid use of mobile phones. Sh. Joginder Singh, SSP Traffic, Jammu City said that speeding is the major cause of road accidents and called upon the young students to follow traffic rules and drive within prescribed speed limits.

On this occasion a debate competition was also organized by the College on this year theme of Road Safety week " Sadak Suraksha Jeevan Raksha. The first prize was won by Rizwana Hamid, a student of 6th Semester, Electrical Engineering. The second and third prize was begged by Akshay kotwal of 6th Semester Mechanical Engineering and Aamir Jafri of 6th Semester Civil Engineering respectively. The program was coordinated by Er. Jasdeep Kour, Lecturer of the institute. Er. K.S Bhatia (HOD Mechanical Engg), Er. Rajesh Gupta HOD (Automobile Engg), Er Sanam Gupta and Er Ajay Thapa Lecturer Mechanical Engg and Ar Ritika Wadhera, HOD Architecture made all the necessary arrangements for smooth conduct of function. All the Head of the departments, faculty members and students of the institute were present on the ocassion.
