Government Polytechnic, Bikram Chowk, Jammu is affiliated to the J&K State Board of Technical Education (SBOTE) and follows the Semester Pattern System. The Diploma in Engineering is a three year duration course with six semesters. The academic calendar is issued at the start of academic session after the admissions are complete. The examinations are conducted by J&K SBOTE in May/ June and November/ December session every year. The carry over pattern is followed to qualify for the next class as per the rules prescribed by the J&K SBOTE and is designed keeping in mind the need of the industry.
Two Mid-Semester Tests (M.S.T) for all theory and practicals are conducted and the internal assessment is awarded on the basis of these tests. For appearing in the final examination, the students is required to have more than 75% of the attendance in each subject and minimum 50% marks in the mid-semester tests conducted by the Institution.
Tentative Schedule for Mid-Semester Tests is:
1. M.S.T - 1st - after 6 weeks.
2. M.S T - 2nd - after 12 weeks.
The students are required to submit the examination form after M.S.T 1st. It is for the information of the students that just filling of the examination form does not give the right to the students to appear in the examination and students will be allowed to appear in the final examination after completing all the requisite formalities of J&K SBOTE. The roll no. to the students are issued after the completion of the semester to those students who has 75% of attendance and has passed at least one of the M.S.T. Even if the student appear in the final examination his all the papers are cancelled if he/she fails in sessional marks.
